A. Pengertian Part of Speech :
Part of speech is a linguistic category of words which is generally defined by the syntactic or morphological behaviour of the lexical item in question. Dengan kata lain part of speech adalah bagian – bagian dasar dari kalimat bahasa inggris.
B. Part of speech terbagi kedalam 8 jenis :
- Adjective (Kata sifat)
Part of speech ini berfungsi untuk menjelaskan kata benda (noun) ataupun pronoun (kata ganti).
Contoh : Expensive, beautiful, handsome, bad, crazy, happy, sad, etc.
Contoh kalimat:
a beautiful girl
the expensive car. - Nouns (Kata benda)
Part of speech ini berfungsi untuk menamai orang, hewan, tempat, benda, etc.
Contoh : Table, car, student, water, etc.
Contoh kalimat :
Your book is under the chair
We are the best students - Pronoun (Kata ganti)
Part of speech ini berfungsi untuk menggantikan kata benda baik orang maupun benda lainnya. Pronoun juga berfungsi untuk menghindari pengulangan pada penggunaan noun.

Contoh kalimat :
They study English everyday
- Conjunction (Kata Penghubung)Part of speech ini berfungsi untuk menhubungkan dua kata, frasa atau paragraf.Contoh : and, but, before, after, therefore, yet etc.
Contoh kalimat :
I like that car, but I don’t have enough money to buy it. - Adverb (Kata keterangan)
Part of speech ini berfungsi untuk menjelaskan kata kerja (verb), kata sifat (adjective), ataupun adverb lainnya. ada beberapa macam adverb yaitu adverb of time, place, manner, degree, frequency, modality, dan focus.
Contoh : now (time), there (place) etc.
Contoh kalimat :
I want to sleep now. - Verb (Kata kerja)Part of speech ini berfungsi untuk menyatakan tindakan, yang menghasilkan suatu kegiatan atau peristiwa.Contoh : Run, play, improve, drink, drive, etc.
Contoh kalimat:
I drive my car by myself - Preposition (Kata depan)Part of speech ini biasanya dikombinasikan dengan noun atau pronoun untuk membentuk sebuah phrase yang menjelaskan verb, noun, dan adjective.Contoh : in, on, at, for, above, under etc.
Contoh kalimat :
She puts the book on the table. - Interjection (Kata seru)Part of speech adalah ucapan pendek (kata seru) yang berfungsi untuk menyatakan sebuah emosi atau sapaan.Contoh : Hi!, Hello!, alas!, oh!
