Possessive adjectives (kata sifat kepemilikan) adalah kata sifat yang menerangkan tentang kepemilikan terhadap sesuatu.

Jenis

Yang termasuk kedalam Possessive adjectives adalah sebagai berikut:

my, your, his, her, its, our, your, their –

yang mengubah kata benda dengan cara mengikutinya dengan tujuan menunjukkan kepemilikan.

Contoh.

  • I’ll get my phone. Aku akan mendapatkan handphon ku.
  • Is this your luggage? Apakah ini bagasi mu?

Possessive adjectives sering dibingungkan oleh Possessive Pronoun. Karena keduanya mempunyai kemiripan, maka kalian hati-hati ya dalam penggunaannya. Salah menggunakan kata maka akan sangat jauh juga makna yang dihasilkan.

Contoh.

  • Yourhouse is blue. (your is an adjective which modifies house)
  • Mineis yellow. (mine is a pronoun which functions as the subject of the verb is)

Contoh.

  • Why didn’t you clean yourroom? Kenapa kamu tidak membersihkan ruangan mu?
    (your modifies the noun room)
  • Mary doesn’t like her Mary tidak menyukai gaunnya
    (hermodifies the noun dress)
  • The chameleon can change its Bunglon dapat merubah warnanya.
    (itsmodifies the noun color)

  1. Possessive adjectives berbeda alias tidak sama dengan Possessive Pronoun.
  • This is your(possessive adjective) book and this is mine (possessive pronoun).
  1. its, theiradalah possessive adjectives.
  • Itscolor is beautiful. Warnnya indah
  • Theircar is in theirmobil mereka didalam garasi
  1. it’s, they’redan there adalah bukan possessive adjectives — its adalah singkatan dari it is or it has; they’re adalah singkatan dari they are, there adalah kata keterangan tempat.

It’s not my book = It is not my book.

  • My house is big. It’sgot five bedrooms = It has got five bedrooms.
  • Nancy and Alan are from New York. They’remy friends = They are my friends.
  • Please, put the chair there. (adverb)

Fungsi

Kita menggunakan possessive adjectives untuk:

  • to showsomething belongsto somebody: menunjukkan sesuatu milik seseorang.

That’s our house. Itu rumah kita.
My car is very old. Mobilku sangat tua

 

  • forrelationsand friends: untuk relasi dan teman.

My mother is a doctor. Ibu ku adalah seorang dokter
How old is your sister? Berapa usia kakak perempuan mu?

  • for parts of the body: Untuk anggota tubuh.

He’s broken his arm.jari tangannya terluka
She’s washing her hair. Dia sedang mencuci rambutnya.
I need to clean my teeth. Aku harus membersihkan gigi ku

  • Nancy and Alan are from New York. They’re my friends

    She’s washing her hair.
